Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Champions got the monkey off their backs with an offensive performance to remember on Monday evening.

They belted 15 hits in a 7-6 win over the Quebec Capitales in the opener of a three-game series.

The game was highlighted by a three-run home run from former Quebec Capitale Sebastien Boucher. The hit was a moonshot to centre field, and was the game-winning run for the Champions.

Ottawa manager Hal Lanier was delighted after the game and praised his team's effort, which broke a string of losses where his squad was unable to get base hits at the right times.

"I was very happy with the way we swung the bat with people in scoring position," said an elated Lanier. "We were able to get a lot of base hits, especially with men in scoring position."

Ottawa was also able to find a groove at the bottom of the order.

Every player in the starting lineup had a hit by the end of the game, including role players Daniel Bick and Cory Caswell.

Bick is hitting .600 against the Capitales this season, as he continues to settle in to his new role in professional baseball.

"I'm getting back into the swing of things," he said. "Starting to see the ball better, and I take pride in playing a complete game at the plate and in the field."

"Whenever that happens, I'm pretty happy with my performance today."

The game went back and forth until the sixth inning, when Boucher broke the game open with his homer. It broke a 6-6 tie, and gave Ottawa a lead that it wouldn't relinquish.

"It's not easy to (hit a home run) in this ballpark," Boucher said, referring to the tough dimensions at RCGT Park.

"So I'm actually pretty proud of that one."

Lanier agreed that it is hard to hit a home run in the confines of RCGT Park. He said that Boucher got all of the pitch, and launched one that would be a no-doubter anywhere else.

The win snaps a five-game losing skid for the Champions, and improves their record to 13-19.

"You have to break that streak sometime," said Lanier. "We had a talk yesterday during the rainout. We knew we needed to start putting some W's on the board. So it feels good."

The Champions and Capitales will meet again Tuesday night, with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at RCGT Park.
