Sanz Named Pitcher of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Rockland Boulders RHP Luis Sanz (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 28.

Sanz was lockdown in relief for the Boulders this week, helping them earn four wins with four scoreless innings. Sanz saved three games on the week, while only allowing one hit and two walks. Over his four innings of work, Sanz picked up one strikeout.

His first appearance of the week came on Wednesday, when he pitched a scoreless inning in a 4-0 win over the Sussex County Miners. The Venezuelan returned to the hill on Thursday, earning his first save of the week with a scoreless inning in a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Champions. After not pitching Friday, Sanz was back Saturday at the Quebec Capitales. He allowed his only hit of the week but still saved a 5-4 Rockland win. Sanz closed the week with another save Sunday in a 7-4 triumph, as his scoreless inning included a strikeout.

On the season, Sanz is now 0-1 with a miniscule 0.73 ERA. In 12 relief appearances, he has seven saves. Working 12.1 innings, Sanz has amassed 10 strikeouts while walking only five and surrendering five hits.

Sanz is in his second season with Rockland, and his second independent season overall. He spent the 2008-2012 seasons with the Detroit Tigers organization, reaching as far as the Class A Advanced Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2012. In 2013, Sanz suited up for the Class AA Altoona Curve in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Rockland is now 23-11 and leads the Can-Am League by 3.5 games over Quebec. The Boulders open an interleague home series tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association.
