June 29, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Ottawa 7, Quebec 6
The Ottawa Champions turned 15 hits into seven runs and that proved to be just enough as they took care of the Quebec Capitales 7-6.
All nine Champions in the batting order registered at least one hit in the game and they were led by CF Sebastien Boucher who went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and a pair of runs scored. Three Champions - 2B Roberto Ramirez, 1B Jon Talley and SS Daniel Bick - had two hits in the game. For the Capitales, SS Jonathan Malo went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a runs scored and both C Jean-Luc Blaquiere and RF Yuniesky Gurriel added a pair of hits.
On the mound, reliever Jack Fowler picked up the win for working 1.1 innings and allowing two runs on two hits and Alan DeRatt earned the five-out save without allowing a run or a hit.
New Jersey 11, Garden State 1
The New Jersey Jackals opened the Garden State Grays' 64-game slate by handing them an 11-1 defeat.
New Jersey struck first as 2B Anthony Gomez stole home in the third but the Grays tied the score in the top of the fifth as DH Erik Kozel scored when CF Darian Sandford reached on an error. The Jackals blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth with a seven-run outburst powered by a hit by pitch, four hits and four walks. For the game, LF Justin Trapp paced the Jackals as he went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
For the Grays, 3B Kale Sumner went 3-for-4 to lead the team and both C Yefry Castillo and 2B Victor LeBron went 2-for-4.
Kansas City 1, Rockland 0
The Kansas City T-Bones edged the Rockland Boulders 1-0 in an interleague contest thanks to a ninth-inning RBI single.
The game was locked in a scoreless tie for eight innings but in the top of the ninth DH Jake Blackwood drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a single by RF Adam Bailey, his third hit of the game, and then scored on a single from LF Kyle Robinson. The T-Bones sealed the win in the bottom of the frame as reliever Fernando Hernandez set the Boulders down in order after giving up a leadoff single RF to Joe Maloney, who was 2-for-4 in the game.
Starting pitcher Blair Holovach went seven strong for the T-Bones and allowed just five hits while striking out four batters. Rockland's starter Alex Goulin also worked seven solid innings as he allowed seven hits and struck out five.
