Bossier Blasts RiverKings 8-2

BOSSIER CITY, LA --- The Mississippi RiverKings couldn't recover from a five-goal Bossier-Shreveport first period, as the Mudbugs defeated the RiverKings 8-2 in Central Hockey League action Saturday, January 1st, in Bossier City, LA. Mississippi finished a five-game road trip with a 1-4-0 record as the team heads home for their first game on home ice since December 21st.

Bossier-Shreveport opened the game with five goals in the first period, with Jeff Kyrzakos, Joe Blaznek, James DeLory, Jamie Milam, and David Rutherford netting goals for the Mudbugs. In between, Chris Auger scored his third goal of the season and second shorthanded goal at 8:47 of the period, as Bossier-Shreveport led 5-1 after one.

Each team scored in the second period. Mississippi scored first when Patrik Levesque scored in the crease at the 8:20 mark to make the score 5-2 for Bossier-Shreveport. But, the Mudbugs answered over six minutes later on a goal from Steven Crampton for a 6-1 lead going into the third period.

In the third period, Bossier-Shreveport add two more goals,as Rutherford and Crampton finished up the scoresheet.

Mississippi was outshot 38-25 in the game, with Alexander Pechurskiy (8-6-0) making eight saves on 13 shots in the first period. Larry Sterling played the final two periods in goal and was 22 of 25 in the crease for the RiverKings. John DeCaro (9-4-0) was 23 of 25 in net for the Mudbugs.

Neither team scored on the power play, with Mississippi getting four chances and the Mudbugs with three.

Mississippi has a record 14-16-1, while Bossier-Shreveport won for the 20th time this year. (20-11-0).

The next home game for the RiverKings is Sunday afternoon, January 2nd at 3:05 PM in a re-match with the Mudbugs. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Memphis will be the game's non-profit MVP.
