Rapid City Rush News Release
(Independence, MO) - As the Turner Conference playoff hunt continued on Tuesday night, the Rapid City Rush earned a vital two points with a 4-3 shootout win over the Missouri Mavericks. Collin Circelli poured in a pair of goals, including the game winner, while goaltender Tim Boron stifled all five Mavericks attempts in the shootout. The Rush now have a two point advantage over the Quad City Mallards for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Turner Conference. The Mallards visit the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for a pair of pivotal games set for this Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th. Tickets are available by calling the Rush office at 716-7825 or online at www.gotmine.com .
The Mavericks controlled the first half of the opening period, earning numerous chances and capitalizing on their first powerplay of the game. Just twenty-two seconds into the man-advantage, defenseman Tristin Llewellyn blasted a shot from the middle blueline through Rush goaltender Tim Boron for his first goal of the season. The Rush later turned the tables, scoring on their first powerplay chance, one of two goals in a 1:16 span. Newly acquired forward Kelly Czuy rifled home his first goal in a Rush uniform on a slapshot from the right circle. Moments later, Collin Circelli took advantage of a Mavs turnover walking in on a 2-on-1 and stickhandling past Missouri goaltender Charlie Effinger for the 2-1 lead.
Both sides exchanged goals in the second frame, beginning with Kris Hogg's fifth of the season that evened the game just 2:59 into the period. Five minutes later, Shawn Limpright's pass to the slot gave Konrad Reeder an open opportunity, and the finesse forward slammed in his team-leading 25th of the year for the 3-2 lead. The advantage lasted until the 17:27 mark when Sebastien Thinel sent a no-look pass to the side of the net where Ed McGrane roofed a shot to the top-left corner.
After a scoreless 3rd period and overtime, the contest headed to a shootout where Collin Circelli proved to be the only player to convert on either side as Tim Boron turned aside all five Mavs attempts.
With the win, Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras tied Garry Unger for 6th on the CHL's all-time wins leaders.
