
Sundogs Fall to First Place Evansville, 5-2

EVANSVILLE, IN - A perfect performance by the Evanville Icemen power play was the difference on Wednesday in a 5-2 victory over the Arizona Sundogs in front of 6,577 at the Ford Center.
The Icemen (33-13-4) went 3-for-3 on the power play as Todd Robinson and Matt Gens each tallied three-point games - all three of their points came on the man-advantage.
Adam Smyth scored in a return to the Sundogs lineup after missing the past three games. His first period goal with 5:40 to play cut the Icemen lead to 2-1. It was Smyth's ninth of the season.
Luke Erickson also scored a second period goal for Arizona (16-28-7) on a 2-on-1 rush with Daymen Rycroft. Erickson buried the rebound off a Rycroft shot with 5:38 remaining to make it a 4-2 score favoring Evansville.
Gen's third period, power play goal sealed the final score on a slap shot from the point.
Malcolm Gwilliam and Phil Plante each scored less than two minutes apart in the opening period for the Icemen to take a 2-0 lead. Plante's was a power play strike. Evansville also received second period goals from Robinson on the power play and Mark Cody to take a 4-1 lead.
Mike Spillane took the loss for Arizona stopping 18 shots. Pier-Olivier Pelletier earned the win for Evansville with 35 saves.
The Sundogs finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Sundogs now travel to Fort Wayne, IN for a Friday meeting with the Komets. Game time is set for 6:05 PM MST and the action can be heard live on Cattle Country 94.3 FM.
