LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 8-2.
The Laredo Bucks and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees met for the twelfth time Wednesday night. The last time these two teams met was Tuesday, February 9th at the LEA, where the Bees won 5-3.
The Killer Bees jumped on the board first when Jason Dixon found the net at 5:47. This would be the only tally in the period. The Bucks were outshot by the Bees 10-8 in the opening period.
The second period was an offensive one. Greg Moore scored his first goal as a Laredo Buck at 1:39 in the period. Erik Boisvert assisted on the game tying goal. Shortly after the Moore goal, the Killer Bees scored three unanswered goals giving them a 4-1 lead. Neil Trimm scored an unassisted powerplay goal at 15:52 to cut the Killer Bee lead to 4-2. However, the Bees were not done offensively and scored another goal at 17:28 giving Rio a 5-2 lead to end the period. Torrie Jung took over in net after the goal, relieving Ryan Rondeau. Rondeau faced 22 shots and made 17 saves while in net. The Bucks did outshoot the Bees 14-13 in the second period.
The third period was controlled by the Bees, where they scored 3 more goals giving them an 8-2 lead. The Bucks outshot the Bees 9-8 in the final frame. The teams were tied at 31 shots a piece in the game.
The Laredo Bucks will visit Allen on Friday, February 24th then return home to the LEA to face the Americans Saturday, February 25th at 7:30pm. The Laredo Bucks will be hosting a watch party at Hal's Landing on Tuesday, February 28th. The Bucks will take on their rivals the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The puck drops at 7pm.
LITERACY NIGHT/DR. SEUSS'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION:
The Laredo Bucks will be hosting a book drive on Friday, March 2nd (Dr. Seuss' Birthday)! The Bucks are encouraging all fans to bring any new or gently used books to the game. Also, the Laredo Bucks will be wearing special Dr. Seuss jerseys to auction off after the game. This will be the last specialty jersey auction of the season. Don't miss out!
