LAREDO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (21-24-7) scored a season high eight goals on the way to an 8-2 victory over the Laredo Bucks (19-29-1) on Wednesday night. The Bees were paced by Aaron Lee and Jason Dixon who each registered five points (two goals and three assists) and along with their linemate Brady Leavold were all a +6.
Jason Dixon gave the Bees the lead early in the first period as he batted a puck out of mid-air past Laredo goalie Ryan Rondeau. Georgi Petrov earned the assist on the only strike of the first period. For Dixon it was his 7th goal of the season.
The second period was busy as the teams combined for six goals, four of them scored by the Bees.
Laredo struck first as Greg Moore scored just 1:39 into the period. Moore took a slap shot from the point after an initial Wylie Rogers save.
Jason Dixon gave the Bees the lead back 84 seconds later with his second of the game at 3:03 of the second. Dixon took a shot from just inside the circles.
The Bees increased their lead to two as Dan Gendur scored his 20th of the season at the 8:31 mark. Gendur took a feed from the corner and one-timed it to the back of the net. Brandon Campos and Tomas Klempa earned the assists.
The Bees raced out to a 4-1 lead at 13:08 of the second as Adam Bartholomay scored his second of the season. Jason Dixon recorded his third point of the game after sliding the puck across the slot for Bartholomay.
Laredo got one back at 15:52 with a power-play goal by Neil Trim but the two-goal lead would be short lived as Brady Leavold scored his first of the season at 17:28. Leavold took the puck and drove to the net and on the second chance roofed it. Jason Dixon earned his fourth point of the game with the assist. Aaron Lee also assisted on the goal.
The third period was all Bees as they scored another three goals against the Bucks. Aaron Lee scored the first two followed by a Brandon Campos strike. On the second Lee goal Brady Leavold and Jason Dixon earned the assists and on the Campos goal the assists were credited to Gendur and Mike Wilson.
