Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
The Northwoods League has released its 2012 schedule and the Thunder Bay Border Cats will open their 10th anniversary season on the road Wednesday, May 30th, in Alexandria against the Beetles. The Cats will kick off the season with a five game road trip with a pair of games in Alexandria and a three game series in Rochester against the Honkers. The Cats home opener is set for Monday, June 4th, at 7:05 p.m. at Subway Field at Port Arthur Stadium against Alexandria. It will be a brief two game homestand as the two-time NWL Champions will hit the road again for three games in Mankato before returning to Thunder Bay for a five game homestand beginning on Saturday, June 9th, versus the Willmar Stingers. The Cats longest homestand of the season consists of seven games from July 26th-August 1st against the St. Cloud River Bats and the Mankato MoonDogs. The Cats have also announced that weeknight home games will start at 7:05 p.m., Saturday's begin at 6:05 p.m. and the first pitch on Sunday's will be at 5:05 p.m. The only exceptions are Saturday, June 30th, against Rochester at 7:35 p.m. due to post-game fireworks and the following day on Sunday, July 1st, at 1:35 p.m. for the traditional Canada Day afternoon game. Home game starting times are still subject to change. The Cats final regular season home game is Friday, August 10th, versus the Duluth Huskies.
The NWL announced Monday that the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers have ceased operations to make room for the Lakeshore Chinooks. The Chinooks will play in surburban Milwaukee and will be in the South Division with the other seven Wisconsin based teams. The Waterloo Bucks from Iowa will join the Border Cats and the league's six Minnesota franchises in the North Division. Thunder Bay will again play its entire 70-game schedule against the other seven North Division clubs.
