Bucks Announce 2012 Schedule, Move to North
December 19, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Waterloo Bucks News Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks, members of the Northwoods League, have announced their schedule for the 2012 season. The 18th year of Bucks baseball will feature a 70-game schedule and a move from the South Division to the North Division of the NWL. The '12 schedule will begin at home as they face their old rival Rochester Honkers on Wednesday, May 30.
Waterloo 's move to the North comes after the NWL's expansion to Mequon, Wisconsin this fall and the announcement earlier today that the Brainerd Lake Area Lunkers have closed operations. With the addition of the Lakeshore Chinooks, who will call Mequon home, it became necessary to close the operation of one of the current teams to continue with an even number of 16 teams in the League. Brainerd had finished last in Northwoods League attendance for seven consecutive years. The Brainerd Blue Thunder existed from 2005 through 2008. The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers operated from 2009 through 2011. With an opening in the North Division and the Chinooks firmly placed in the footprint of the South Division, the Bucks will switch divisions.
"The Bucks look forward to renewing our rivalries with Rochester and the other teams in the North; teams we haven't played since 2009 or earlier," said Bucks' General Manager Dan Corbin. "Our traditional rivalry with the Honkers is one of the best in all of baseball, and I know both fanbases will be happy to again have the opportunity to make the short drive on Highway 63 to see their team play in enemy territory."
The Bucks have home games to bookend the '12 campaign. Waterloo Manager Travis Kiewiet and his squad will close out the '12 crusade at home versus the Mankato MoonDogs on August 12. Like the previous two seasons, the '12 season calls for a 35-game home schedule.
Waterloo will see a pair of six-game home stands this season, the longest of the year. June 13 will begin a six-game home stand for the Bucks, while the second begins on July 9. As for the longest road trip of the season, the Bucks have a 10-game road swing over a 13-day period starting July 20. The Bucks will travel to Alexandria, Minnesota to take on the Beetles for a three-game series to start the trip. The NWL All-Star Break spans three days, beginning on July 23. From there, Waterloo travels to Rochester, Minnesota to face the Honkers for a two-game set, followed by a two-game series at Alexandria, and then finishing up with a three-game series in Duluth, Minnesota versus the Huskies.
The final day of the first-half of Northwoods League action will be Wednesday, July 4 when the Bucks travel to Mankato, Minnesota to face the MoonDogs. The Bucks start the second half at home versus the Willmar Stingers on Thursday, July 5.
This season's league playoffs will begin on Monday, August 13 with two best-of-three divisional series matchups. The divisional winners will then advance to the Summer Collegiate World Series and face off in a best-of-three set beginning on Thursday, August 16 to determine the 2012 Northwoods League Champions.
Breaking the home schedule down by days of the week, renovated Riverfront Stadium will be the site of four Sunday games, four Monday games, four Tuesday games, five Wednesday games, six Thursday games, six Friday games, and six Saturday games. The Bucks will be home for Flag Day (Thursday, June 14 versus Alexandria) and their traditional Father's Day game (Sunday, June 17 versus Alexandria).
The Bucks will play one game at home in the month of May, 18 games at home in the month of June, 11 games at home during the month of July, and five games at home during the month of August. Waterloo will be the home team for 19 games in the first half of the season and home for 16 in the second half.
Home game times for the 2012 season are as follows:
Monday - Saturday games: 6:35 pm CT
Sunday games: 3:05 pm CT
Wednesday, June 13: 1:05 pm CT
