La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI - 2012 marks the 10-year anniversary of the beginning of Loggers Baseball in La Crosse and now the summer collegiate franchise officially has a slate of games thanks to the release of the 2012 schedule today from the Northwoods League office. 2012 will also be the 19 th season of play for the Northwoods League.

For the third consecutive year the Northwoods League will use a 70-game divisional schedule. All teams will play the other seven teams from their division a total of ten times throughout the season.

The Lumbermen will open their 2012 campaign on Monday, May 30 when they travel to Wisconsin Rapids to take on the Rafters at 7:05 p.m. The 2012 home opener will then be on Saturday, June 2 when the Loggers welcome Madison to town for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch. That two-game series will continue into Sunday, June 3 which will mark the exact date 10 years ago that the first pitch in Loggers history was thrown out when the Loggers played host to the Alexandria Beetles on June 3, 2003.

La Crosse will play 16 of their first 23 games on the road to kick off the 2012 season, once again playing all intra-division games. The Loggers will be in Battle Creek, Mich. on Wednesday, July 4 when the first- half of the 2012 season draws to a close. The NWL's mid-summer classic will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at a destination that will be announced in January of the new year. The Loggers will close out their 35-game home schedule on Thursday, August 9 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks and the regular season will wrap up on Sunday, August 12 with the Loggers playing at Joannes Park in Green Bay, Wisc.

The first and second half division winners from both the North and South will meet in a best-of-three Divisional Playoff Series on August 13-15. The North and South Division Champions will then meet in a best-of-three series for the Summer Collegiate World Series on August 16-18.

With the addition of the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks to the South Division and the loss of the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers from the North Division, there will be realignment within the divisions for the first time since Rochester moved from the South to the North in 2007. The Waterloo Bucks, the lone Iowa team in the Northwoods League, have joined Ontario's Thunder Bay Border Cats and the six Minnesota franchises in the North Division. The South Division now consists of seven Wisconsin franchises as well as Michigan's Battle Creek Bombers.

The Loggers have numerous promotions planned for their 10-year anniversary in 2012 which includes welcoming the 1,000,000th fan to Copeland Park, a feat that should be achieved at some point in late July based on projections.
