December 20, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Prescott Valley, AZ (December 20th) - Jon Booras will become the second Thunder player this season to reach the 500-game club, joining teammate Andrew Martens tonight when the Thunder visits the Arizona Sundogs at 8:05 p.m. central time at Tim's Toyota Center.
Booras, who signed in the off-season, spent the majority of his career in Bloomington having played for the Prairie Thunder and Blaze. In 2007-08, the Billings, Montana native racked up 100 points (40g, 60a) and finished second in scoring a season ago. He is nine points shy of reaching 500 points in his career, currently with 195 goals and 296 assists.
This is the first meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Sundogs. The two teams will meet each other nine times over the next three and a half months and will finish the season with three-straight games in Prescott Valley. During last year's post-season run, Wichita swept the Sundogs in four games. The Thunder is coming off a split last weekend in St. Charles, losing on Friday night 3-1 and winning 5-1 on Saturday. Ian Lowe and Matt Robinson each had three points in Saturday's victory as the Thunder offense was very balanced. Wichita is in the middle of a five-game road swing that will end in Tulsa on Friday, December 27th against Tulsa.
Arizona is coming off a win last Saturday in Denver that ended a seven-game losing skid. The Sundogs begin a five-game home-stand tonight. Arizona acquired the rights to Brandon Coccimiglio from Tulsa, who had originally left the Oilers to go overseas. This season, he has registered seven points against Wichita (5g, 2a) in three previous games with Tulsa. The Sundogs are led by Paul McIlveen, has 22 points and Kevin Baker, who has 15 points, so far this season. Captain Jason Morgan was moved from the 7-Day to the 14-Day IR and will miss the weekend series.
Wichita and Arizona will play tonight at 8:05 p.m. CST. The two teams will close out the two-game set tomorrow night, also at 8:05 p.m.
Individual game tickets are on sale now. Season tickets and mini plans are still available. Don't delay, contact the Wichita Thunder Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at (316) 264-4625. Stay up-to-date on all the news this off-season by visiting www.wichitathunder.com.
