Second Period Carries Mavs Past Chill

Independence, Mo. - Kyle O'Kane cut the Chill deficit to 2-1with his 11thgoal but the Mavericks answered with two in the following four minutes of the second period and Missouri pulled away in the third period with a 6-1 win on Star Wars Night.

Chill goalie Robby Moss turned aside 14 shots as the teams skated to a scoreless first period but the Mavericks (16-6-1) got on the board at the 4:41 mark of the first period on a goal from Sebastian Thinel. St. Charles (7-14-4) picked up the offensive chances in the period but Mavs goalie Shane Owen made some tough stops. Missouri stretched their lead to 2-0 with under seven minutes to go in the second but 51 seconds later O'Kane cashed in his 17th point, second on the team, on assists from Andrew Conboy and Martin Hlinka, their 6th and 11th points respectively.

Obi Oduba scored the first of two on the night to push the Chill deficit to two goals and the Mavs added a power play goal in the final two minutes of the second period for the 4-1 lead.

The Chill got off a dozen shots in the final frame but Owen kept the back of the net clean.

St. Charles is back on the ice Saturday night in Quad City before returning home to take on the Mallards Sunday with puck drop set for 4:05.
