
Boomers Win Series at Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored in five different innings to tally a 6-1 road win over the Joliet Slammers and capture the series.
Eddie Cody twirled six innings on the hill to earn his team best ninth victory, allowing just one run on four hits. Schaumburg grabbed a 1-0 lead just four batters into the contest on an RBI single from John Menken. Menken extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third. Jared Welch stretched the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. After Joliet scored in the bottom of the inning, the Boomers did not allow another run. Ty Nelson hit his first homer with the Boomers this season in the sixth and two more runs scored in the eighth.
Clark Labitan worked a pair of innings and Jake Joyce twirled the ninth to combine on the victory. Nelson reached in all four plate appearances and scored two runs. Menken and Welch finished with two RBIs each. Ken Kirshner notched a pair of hits and a pair of steals.
The Boomers (36-51) begin the final homestand of the season on Friday night when the Gateway Grizzlies visit.
