SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers matched a franchise record with their fifth consecutive victory, requiring 12 innings to rally past the Frontier Greys 5-4 on Tuesday evening.
Sean Mahley recorded an opposite field single with two strikes in the 12th to bring home Mike Demperio with the winning run. Schaumburg trailed 3-0 and 4-1 in the game, scoring two unearned runs in the seventh to even the contest. The three-run deficit matches the largest comeback this year. Danny Jimenez started and threw six innings, allowing four runs in a no decision. Preston Hatcher tossed the 12th in his first home appearance to collect his first pro win. The Boomers tallied 16 hits, a season high. Chad Mozingo posted four hits. Schaumburg is 5-0 in extra innings and owns four walk-off victories at home. The win vaulted the Boomers (18-11) into second place and within a game of first in the West Division.
The series continues with a day game at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. RHP Cody Griebling (3-2, 6.68) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Joe Zeller (3-3, 5.40).
