Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a pair of contests to the River City Rascals on Sunday falling 3-2 and 1-0.

The starting pitching was on point for the Boomers in both games. Brett Mabry worked 6.1 innings in the opener and took the hard luck loss. Mabry fell behind 2-0 in the second as a result of bad luck when a collision in shallow right field led to a leadoff double. The Boomers rallied to tie the score. Craig Massey singled home a run in the fourth while Steve Rogers came through with an RBI single in the sixth. River City pushed across a run without a hit in the seventh to steal the win on a squeeze. Mabry walked three and struck out three.

Arlington Heights, Ill. native Scott Plaza tossed a complete game in the second contest but suffered the loss in a 1-0 decision. Plaza retired the first 10 River City hitters before an error set up the only run of the game in the fourth inning. Plaza allowed only three hits in seven innings, throwing just 72 pitches while walking one and striking four. Cam Sherrer finished with two hits in the loss as the Boomers, who have dropped a franchise record six straight, placed just two runners at second.

The Boomers (6-10) hit the road on Tuesday night to meet the Southern Illinois Miners in the first of a three-game stint at 7:05 p.m. RHP Eddie Cody (2-0, 0.90) received the ball in the opener.
