Rockford Aviators News Release

The Traverse City Beach Bums (7-7) swept a doubleheader from the Rockford Aviators (12-3) by the scores of 4-2 and 3-0 in Frontier League baseball action Sunday at Aviators Stadium in Loves Park, IL. The doubleheader sweep enabled the Beach Bums to claim the three game series between the two clubs after Rockford had captured the opener on Friday (8-7) prior to Saturday's postponement.

Brandon Jacobs' run-scoring double in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and sparked the Beach Bums to a victory in Game One. Chuck Ghysels (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Phillips, who worked the first five innings, with Andrew Brockett getting the save. The Beach Bums initially jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first before Rockford tied it in the fifth on a two run single by Elijah Trail. Kyle Allen pitched the first five for Rockford, with Colby Holmes (1-1) taking the loss in relief as he yielded two runs on three hits in the seventh inning.

The Beach Bums scored single runs in the first three innings of Game Two against Rockford starter Nick Grim (0-1) as Michael Shreves (1-0) and Bret Dahlson combined to limit Rockford to six hits and administer the first shutout of the year against the Aviators. Dahlson hurled the final two innings to register the save.

The Aviators embark on a six game road trip to battle the Washington (PA) Wild Things (June 3-4) and Windy City Thunderbolts (June 5-7) before returning home to open a six game homestand v. the Lake Erie Crushers on June 9.
