Schaumburg Boomers News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, tallied a second consecutive shutout to open the 2015 season by spoiling the home opener for the Washington Wild Things with a 1-0 decision.
The only run came across in the fifth inning. Craig Massey scored from third on an errant pickoff throw from Washington's starting pitcher to account for the lone tally. Eddie Cody twirled five blank innings, allowing just four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Hideyoshi Otake, Jake Joyce, and Clark Labitan combined on the shutout.
Schaumburg managed just four hits in the game from four different individuals. The Boomers did draw nine walks. Massey, Mike Schulze, and Alexi Colon all reached base three times.
The Boomers (2-0) continue the season opening seven-game roadtrip on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. with game two against Washington. RHP Edwin Carl makes his return to the mound for the Boomers with Washington sending RHP Ryan Bores. The home schedule opens on Friday, May 22 against the Lake Erie Crushers. The evening begins with a ring ceremony to honor the 2014 team and ends with the first of 21 firework nights. Ensure your place in the fun by calling (847) 461-3695 (FOWL). All games can again be heard on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood. Broadcasts begin with a 15-minute online only highlight show followed by a 15-minute pregame radio show.
