WASHINGTON, PA-The Washington Wild Things fell to the visiting Schaumburg Boomers by a score of 1-0 Friday night. Eddie Cody earned the win for Schaumburg while Opening Day starter Matt Sergey suffered the loss.

Sergey, who last season threw the first perfect game in Frontier League history, tossed four-scoreless innings before giving up his Opening Day shutout. The six-foot-five right-hander fanned two and allowed just four hits.

Washington's defense shined in the top of the seventh when Schaumburg threatened to increase their lead. Shutdown defense from third baseman Sam Mende, second baseman Matt Ford and first baseman Lee Orr eliminated any chances of such event, pulling off an impressive double play to end the inning.

A scoreless eighth and ninth provided the final score of the Opening Day contest. For the official boxscore, please visit http://frontier.bbstats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=247742
