O'Fallon, Mo. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, used solid offense, pitching and defense and won the 2015 season opener 8-0 over the River City Rascals on Friday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

The CornBelters began the scoring in the third inning on a three-run homer by Pat McKenna over the right-center field wall. Santiago Chirino doubled to the base of the wall at the same spot in the fourth inning to increase the advantage to 4-0.

The Belters built the lead to 7-0 in the fifth when McKenna doubled to the left center wall and scored on a home run to right center by Sam Judah, then loaded the bases and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chirino.

Chris Carmain twirled seven solid innings for the win, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out five. Rascals starter Dane Stone went four innings and took the loss, giving up six hits and four runs with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Belters continue the series in suburban St. Louis at 6:35 p.m. Saturday with a pitching match-up of right-handers, Kevin Johnson in his CornBelters debut and Clint Wright for the Rascals.
