
Aviators Win 1st Game of the 2015 Season

Devon Rodriguez doubled in a pair of runs in the top-of-the 7th inning to break a 2-2 tie as the Rockford Aviators defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 6-2 in the 2015 Frontier League season opener for both teams Friday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Il.
Teo Martinez (solo shot in the 2nd) and Michael Hur (two-run blast in the 9th) added home runs in support of starting pitcher Kyke Brueggemann (1-0), who allowed just two runs on three hits over 6.2 innings to record the victory. Eric Cendejas, Matt Frahm and Michael Schaub came out of the bullpen to help secure the win, with Schaub striking out the side in the 9th.
Grizzlies reliever Tony Barton (1-0) suffered the loss after yielding the go ahead runs in the 7th. Starter JaVaun West took no decision after going the first six for Gateway. The Grizzlies only runs came on a two -run homer by Shawn Payne in the third inning off Brueggeman. The teams meet again in the second game of a three game series Saturday Night (7:05 pm CT) at GCS Ballpark.
