SCHAUMBURG, Ill -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, were defeated, and swept, by the Schaumburg Boomers, 3-2, on Thursday night as the Crushers score only seven runs in the series.

The Crushers (16-18) have now lost four straight games overall and have dropped seven of their previous nine road games. With the win, the Boomers (19-17) have won seven straight home games.

The Boomers scored first, as they did in the entire series. Jordan Dean and Kenny Towns singled to start the bottom of the first inning. Dusty Robinson then walked with one out to load the bases. With Paul Kronenfeld at the plate, Dean scored and the other two runners moved up a base on a wild pitch thrown by Crushers starting pitcher, Todd Kibby. Kronenfeld then grounded out to first, allowing Towns to come home, putting the Boomers on top, 2-0.

The Crushers would respond quickly, however. In the top of the second inning, Eric Grabe crushed a solo home run to left field to cut the Boomers lead down to one run.

In the bottom of the second, the Boomers added another run as Dean hit an RBI triple to right field, allowing James Keller to score all the way from first base, putting the Boomers up 3-1.

Lake Erie would work their way back into the game in the seventh inning. Jose Barraza slammed a leadoff double to center and he was followed up by Grabe, who hit a single to center field, scoring Barraza. The throw from center field allowed Grabe to reach second base. Grabe would move over third on a Brady North groundout to second base, but would be stranded there. That would be the last runner the Crushers would have in scoring position.

Kibby (2-4) picked up the loss but pitched very well. Kibby allowed three runs over seven innings on the mound and struck out five Boomers. Keegan Ghidotti pitched one inning, allowing a hit and striking out one batter.

Seth Webster (4-2) got the win in this game, giving up only two runs while striking out eight in seven innings. Patrick Dolan pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Evan Boyd (3) earned the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Barraza has a three game hit streak after going 1-4 at the plate tonight, and has reached base safely in six consecutive games. Kibby has now gone at least six innings in six of his last seven starts that he has made.

The Crushers will travel to Joliet, Illinois to play the Slammers on Friday. The Crushers will start right hander Justin Sinibaldi (0-0, 0.00). The starting pitcher for the Slammers will be left hander Spencer Medick (3-0, 4.28). The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
