Slammers' Kaleb Ort Earns Pitcher of the Week

Joliet, IL - Joliet Slammers' starting pitcher Kaleb Ort and Normal CornBelter's outfielder Nolan Meadows were named Frontier League Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation.

Ort earns this weeks' Pitcher of the Week honors after his sensational 2-0 week with wins over Washington and Schaumburg. The 24-year-old right handed pitcher baffled the Wild Things on Tuesday at CONSOL Energy Park, after throwing 7 innings and only allowing 1 run to score, on 3 hits, while striking out 3 batters. Sunday, Ort, tossed 6 innings while allowing no runs to score, and only gave up 3 hits. In this game, he had a season high total of 9 strikeouts and only 1 walk. This took Ort's record to 3-1 for the season while pitching in 7 games, 33 innings pitched 26 strikeouts, and an overall 4.90 ERA. Ort grew up in Lowell, Michigan and attended Aquinas College. In college, Ort was a two-way standout as a pitcher and outfielder. This is his first season in the Frontier League as well as Professional baseball.

Normal CornBelters' outfielder Nolan Meadows, in his second season of professional baseball and first season in the Frontier League, managed to get 10 hits in his 24 at bats this week. To start off the week, Meadows went 2-4 with 2 RBI, 1 Home Run, and 1 run scored. He followed up this impressive performance on Thursday, where he then went 3-4 with 1 double, 1 triple, 1 Home Run, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. In the weekend series verses the Miners, Meadows went 3-11 with 1 Home Run, 3 RBI, and 1 run scored. Before joining the Frontier League, Meadows spent his time in Pecos League with the Roswell Invaders where he finished with a batting average of .354 where he managed to hit 6 Home Runs, 34 RBI, 5 doubles, and 1 triple. Originally from San Pedro, California the 23-year-old attended California State University Long Beach.
