Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(11-24) defeated the Washington Wild Things(19-16), 3-1, thanks to a couple of clutch hits in the late innings.
Washington got the offense started in the first inning when Jamal Austin hit a single to left. Ricky Rodriguez followed with a walk and Bryan Haar singled to load the bases with nobody out. David Popkins got the Wild Things on the scoreboard with an RBI sacrifice fly but that is all the damage that would be done in the inning as newcomer Sasha Kuebel was able to wiggle out of trouble in his first start as a Beach Bum.
It took until the fourth but the Beach Bums tied the game at 1 when Jose Vargas singled in Casey Rodrigue. Rodrigue led off the inning, hitting a double to left field, then stole third before Vargas' RBI knock. With one out in the seventh, catcher Kendall Patrick blasted a solo home run over the left field wall for his 2nd of the season, and the Beach Bums took a 2-1 lead.
Rodrigue led off the eighth with an infield hit, but Vargas then grounded into a double play. Will Kengor followed with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Steven Patterson drove in an important insurance run with a single to left, scoring Patterson. In the top of the ninth, Washington got a man on via a hit-by-pitch but, Kyle Pollock lined out to short and the runner at first was doubled off to end the game.

Chase Cunningham started for Washington, going seven innings, and allowing two runs on six hits. He gets the loss dropping to 2-4.
