Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 5-1 loss to the Washington Wild Things in 10 innings in the opener of a nine game homestand on Wednesday night.
Offense was hard to find between two of the top hurlers in the league this season. Schaumburg nabbed a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth against the league's leader in ERA, Zac Fuesser. Michael Valadez reached base on an error that brought home the first run. Washington instantly tied the score in the top of the fifth against Seth Webster. Webster worked eight innings and allowed just one run. Washington, East Division leaders, struck for five runs in the top of the 10th to grab the win.
Tony Delmonico finished with two hits in the defeat. Three of the four meetings between the two teams have gone to extra innings this season. The loss halted a six game home win streak for the Boomers, who own a league best 26-8 mark at home this year.
Schaumburg (41-29) continues the series on Thursday. LHP Hunter Ackerman (3-2, 4.91) takes the ball for the Boomers in the 6:30 p.m. contest against RHP Scott Dunn (5-3, 2.99), the 2013 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year. The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
