Dayton Bombers News Release
BOMBERS NOTES
FIRST OF FIVE: The Elmira Jackals took the first of five straight games against the Bombers on Wednesday, winning 5-2. The Jackals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the first period, then grew their lead to five during the second period. Dayton finally got on the board in the third, when Jarret Lukin and Nino Musitelli each connected on the power play. In net for the Bombers was Paul Drew, who had a 27 of 32 performance.
ROUND 2 = REDEMPTION: The Bombers surged back on Friday night, taking down the Jackals 6-3. Despite a scoreless first period, Andrew Fournier and Justin Chwedoruk netted goals for Dayton in the second. A pair of Elmira goals would have the score tied at 2 after 2. Fournier again put the Bombers on top early in the third with his second of the night. The Jackals would score once more, but it was all Dayton after that. Les Reaney put in the game winner before Christian Gaudet and Nino Musitelli each tallied an empty netter. David Shantz was 35 of 38 for the win.
SEE YOU LATER: Saturday night's game between the Bombers and Elmira Jackals was postponed due to unsafe ice conditions at First Arena. The game will be made up on Thursday, April 2 at 7:05 p.m. in Elmira.
WHO'S LEFT: With 11 games remaining on the Bombers' schedule, the team trails the fourth and final playoff spot by seven points. The Trenton Devils hold the coveted fourth position in the North Division standings, a team the Bombers must still face twice. Also remaining on the season schedule are the Cincinnati Cyclones (1 game remaining; 4-8-1-1), Elmira Jackals (3 games remaining; 2-4-0-0), Trenton Devils (2 games remaining; 2-4-0-0), Reading Royals (1 game remaining; 6-3-0-0) and Gwinnett Gladiators (2 games remaining; 0-1-1-0).
ON A ROLL: A pair of assists in Wednesday night's game at Elmira propelled Christian Gaudet to the top of the team's assist leader board. A goal and an assist on Friday night gave Gaudet a three-game point streak (1g,4a) and a three-game assist streak (4a).
RAISING THE BAR: Currently ranking 13th amongst rookies in the ECHL, Nino Musitelli continues to bolster his resume. His 2-point performance on Wednesday and goal on Friday raised his season point total to 43 (18g,25a) and Wednesday was his 11th multi-point game of the season. He netted just his third power play goal of the year, and sits with 11 points overall with the man advantage. He has a 3-game point streak in the works (2g,2a).
WELL ADJUSTED: Since joining the Bombers six games ago from the Florida Everblades, Matt Auffrey and Andrew Fournier have found a way to get the puck into the net. Fournier's two goals in Friday night's game increased his points total to seven (4g,3a) in his last five games. Auffrey, who had three assists in Friday's game, has six points (3g,3a) since moving to Dayton.
TWICE IS NICE: With a game-winning goal and an assist in Friday night's victory, Les Reaney has had three 2-point nights in his last five games. Reaney currently sits with 28 points on the year (10g,18a).
