Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL -Despite outhitting the Washington Wild Things 10-6, the ThunderBolts ended a six-game home stand with a 7-4 loss at Ozinga Field Sunday afternoon.
The Bolts (26-33) were first on the scoreboard as they took a 1-0 lead on a Peyton Isaacson RBI double in the bottom of the third inning, one of three hits in the game for Isaacson.
That was the only lead of the afternoon for Windy City and it didn't last long as Washington (27-33) put up four runs in the top of the fourth. The principle culprit of the rally was wildness from ThunderBolt starter Taylor Sugg. Three walks loaded the bases before Robert Chayka, Carson Clowers and Anthony Brocato all picked up RBI singles to make it 4-1.
The Bolts got one run right back as Jake Boone singled and stole second in the bottom of the inning. He scored on a two-out base hit from Matt Morgan.
The score remained 4-2 until the Wild Things started to pull away in the seventh. Mike DeSanti had control issues as well, walking three batters before a wild pitch scored a run.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Anthony Brocato and Scotty Dubrule in the eighth made it 7-2.
The Bolts inched closer in the ninth. Isaacson singled before a Micah Yonamine two-run homer. Washington reliever Lukas Young was able to retire the next three batters in a row to wrap up the game.
Justin Goossen-Brown (5-0) earned the win with 2.1 shutout innings of relief. Sugg (4-3) took the loss. He allowed four runs in four innings.
After a day off on Monday, the ThunderBolts hit the road for a three-game stretch against the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday. Kenny Mathews (1-6, 6.22) is the scheduled game one starter for the Bolts against Gateway's Zac Ryan (2-2, 4.50). First pitch from Grizzlies Ballpark is scheduled for 6:45 and the broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
