Bridgewater, NJ - The Bridgeport Bluefish shut out the Somerset Patriots 5-0 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
The Bluefish took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on catcher Tommy Rojas' solo home run to center field (3).
Bridgeport added two runs in the top of the eighth inning for a 3-0 lead. Center fielder Quinton McCracken walked and second baseman Shaun Boyd reached on a fielder's choice. Both runners scored on designated hitter Luis Figueroa's two-run single.
The Bluefish put up two more runs in the ninth inning. Right fielder Bobby Malek walked and crossed home plate on first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke's home run to left field (2).
Bluefish starter Justin Sturge (3-0) picked up the win, throwing 6.1 scoreless innings and allowing one hit. Patriots starter Brian Reith (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs - one earned - on five hits in seven innings pitched.
The Somerset Patriots 10th Anniversary Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Wednesday, May 30th when the team returns to Commerce Bank Ballpark to take on the Road Warriors at 7:05 pm. The game includes a chance for fans to win $10,000 courtesy of Heineken Premium Light.
