Bluefish 6th Leads to Win Over Patriots

Bridgeport, CT- Andres Perez launched his first homer of the season off Bill Pulsipher in the 6th and Adam Greenberg drove in a run on a triple to give the Bridgeport Bluefish a 3-1 lead and eventually a win over the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Perez bomb was one of nine two-out base hits from Bridgeport that extended Pulsipher (1-1) to 115 pitches on the night and allowed the Bluefish attack to continue. The Fish also drew a pair of walks in the game, both with two outs.

Bridgeport took the lead in the 1st off Pulsipher with a Joe Borchard RBI sac fly driving in Greenberg. But the Patriots tied the game off starter Juan Padilla - making his first start of the season - in the 4th. Jeff Nettles drove home Justin Huber evening the score at 1-1.

Padilla (2-0) finished 6.0 innings, yielding eight hits but just the one run. In the bottom of the 6th, Perez and Greenberg combined for the RBIs putting Bridgeport in front. Pulsipher finished 6.0 innings, surrendering three runs and a season-high 11 hits for the second time this year, walking just one and striking out a half-dozen.

Will Cunnane, Antonio Alfonseca, and Juan Rincon combined for three shutout innings to close the game while Jeff Kennard and Andrew Dobies threw scoreless frames for Somerset.

Somerset (10-15) tries to even the series with Bridgeport (14-12) Wednesday morning. Derell McCall (0-0, 9.00) makes his first Patriot start against Miguel Mejia (0-2, 5.40). NOTES: Pulsipher, despite the loss, threw another quality start against Bridgeport. In eight career starts, it was his seventh quality start and only second career loss against the Bluefish. He is 4-2 lifetime vs. Bridgeport, both losses coming at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard...Pulsipher was the first Patriot starter to throw over 100 pitches this year...no Patriot starter has won back-to-back starts this year...Nettles' RBI was the 548th of his Atlantic League career, furthering his reign atop the all-time league charts. He has recorded an RBI in six straight games and the last five have been multi-hit games...Yusef Carter made his Patriot debut as a pinch-hitter in the 7th, drawing a walk and staying in to catch the final two innings.
