Blue Crabs Don't Let Revolution Get Started

May 31, 2011 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution could not climb all the way back from an early deficit, losing 8-5 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in their series opener at Regency Furniture Stadium on Tuesday night. The Revs (13-11) slip to three games behind Lancaster for first place with the loss, while the first place Blue Crabs (17-10) gain half a game in the Liberty Division standings with their first place lead now at two full games. The Revs will play two more in Southern Maryland before concluding their road trip and returning home on Friday.

Yunesky Sanchez gave Southern Maryland the early edge with an RBI single to right field in the first, before the Blue Crabs erupted for three more in the second and four in the third.

Ben Harrison's RBI single and a two-run homer to left by Jeremy Owens with two outs in the second extended Southern Maryland's lead to 4-1, and they appeared to put the game out of reach early as their lead grew to 8-1 at the end of three.

Ryan Mulhern collected his league-leading 32nd RBI with a single to left field in the third. Travis Garcia drove in another run on a fielder's choice, and Harrison capped the inning with a two-run double to right-center.

The Revs made a game of it though, piecing together a four-spot of their own just a half inning later, by way of five consecutive hits. Val Majewski led off with a single to right, and Vince Harrison reached on a bloop double to right field. James Shanks then slammed a two-run triple off the fence in left-center, and Mark Ori followed with a single up the middle plating Shanks. Tanner Townsend brought York back within 8-5 on an RBI double to right.

Neither team scored the rest of the game, however. The Revs were held to just two infield hits over the final five innings, while Southern Maryland was held to only three hits over their final five innings on offense.

Ori drove in York's first run on a single to left in the second inning, scoring Harrison who had led off with an infield single and advanced to second on his team-best sixth steal.

Blue Crabs starter Nick Green (3-1) earned his second win of the season against York, despite allowing five runs to the Revs for the second time. In fact, Southern Maryland has won both of his starts against the Revs by the same final score (8-5). The righty hung around to total seven innings of work, and allowed only one hit over his final three frames after the big fourth inning.

York starter Matt DeSalvo (1-2), who had allowed just one earned run combined in his previous two starts, was charged with all eight runs, the most he's allowed in his York career. DeSalvo settled in, however, to finish with three scoreless frames, and totaled eight strikeouts against only two walks in six innings of work.

Jason Richardson handled the final two innings for the Revs, and struck out the side in order in the eighth.

Notes: Vince Harrison (2-for-4) extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 consecutive games, and racked up multiple hits for the fourth consecutive game. the Revs are now 0-4 vs. Southern Maryland on the season. York has allowed 10 homeruns in four games vs. Southern Maryland, and just 13 homeruns in 20 games against the rest of the league. Blue Crabs closer Jim Ed Warden earned his ninth save in as many opportunities, but allowed his first hit of the season in 12.1 innings of work on Townsend's infield single leading off the ninth. it's the second straight game that the Revs have scored four runs in an inning. York is now 3-3 on their eight-game road trip. York lefty Chris Cody (2-1, 3.86) will face Southern Maryland southpaw Keith Ramsey (1-1, 3.52) in the middle game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, Shoutcast.com (WPDC), and YorkRevsTV.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
