Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 31, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-12) snapped the Somerset Patriots (10-15) four game winning streak as the Bluefish won by a score of 3-1, on Tuesday night, at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
In his first start of the season, Juan Padilla (2-0) served six strong innings and allowed one run on eight hits while striking out two. Will Cunnane, Antonio Alfonseca and Juan Rincon combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Rincon earned his second save in as many opportunities.
Bill Pulsipher (1-1) tossed six innings and allowed three earned runs in taking the loss. The southpaw struck out six Bluefish batters. Jeff Kennard and Andrew Dobies threw scoreless innings the rest of the way for the Patriots.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first as the Bluefish took the lead. Adam Greenberg singled to right. With one out, Steve Moss doubled to left to place runners in scoring position. Joe Borchard served a sacrifice fly to center to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead.
Somerset tied the game in the fourth; but Bridgeport scored the final runs of the contest in the sixth. Andres Perez sent a two-out solo shot to leftcenter. His first homer of the season gave the Bluefish a 2-1 lead. Angel Chavez followed with a single. Greenberg drove in the final run with a triple to right; it was his fifth of the season and his third in a week.
Wes Bankston extended his hitting streak to eleven straight after picking up two hits in four official at-bats. Luis Lopez reached base every time he came to the plate. The third baseman had two hits and a pair of walks. Greenberg performed well as he produced three hits on the night.
The Bluefish continue a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, against the Somerset Patriots, on Wednesday, June 1. First pitch is set for 10:35 AM. The gates open one hour prior to first pitch.
