Tiffee Slams Lancaster To Win

May 31, 2011 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Terry Tiffee homered in back-to-back innings, including a grand slam in the fifth, leading Lancaster to a 9-8 win over the Camden Riversharks Tuesday evening at Campbell's Field.

With the win, the Barnstormers now own a three-game lead over the York Revolution in the Freedom Division.

Lancaster trailed, 2-0, entering the fourth, when, with one out, Tommy Everidge doubled over the head of right fielder Noah Hall, igniting a rally. Fernando Seguignol looped a single to left to put runners at the corners. Camden second baseman Lloyd Turner made a sliding catch on Aaron Herr's foul pop fly. Lance Burkhart turned Everidge loose, and he scored when Toby Hall made a minor bobble on the throw to the plate. Tiffee followed with a jolt to left center for a 3-2 lead.

After Camden tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI ground out by Drew Macias, Lancaster attacked Robert Rohrbaugh (1-3) with two outs in the fifth. Gilberto Mejia singled to center and went to second as Adam Godwin snuck a single through the hole on the right side. Everidge stung an RBI single into left for a 4-3 lead, and Seguignol, who was 4-for-4, banged an RBI single into center. Herr picked up a walk, and Tiffee hit the top of the back tier of signs for his slam, Lancaster's first of the season.

The Barnstormers could score no more and, as it turned out, another dramatic finish was in order.

Raul Padron belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, his fifth long ball off Lancaster pitching in 2011, to cut the lead to 9-5. Jerome Williams (4-0) recorded the first two outs in the sixth quickly before walking Macias and Turner consecutively. Yunior Novoa entered to face Mike Lamb, already 3-for-3 with a homer and a double on the night. Lamb knocked a single into right to score Macias, and Turner scored when Brian Burgamy roped a double off the left field wall. Justin Segal hit Toby Hall with his first pitch to load the bases but got Padron to foul out, ending the inning with the Barnstormers up by a pair.

Camden put a run on the board in the seventh on doubles to right by Noah Hall and Macias, cutting the lead to eight. T.J. Beam walked Lamb leading off the eighth, but he and Jeff Bennett combined to retire the final six Riversharks batters to nail down the win.

The series continues on Wednesday evening at 7:05. Ross Peeples (1-2) will get the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Jake Dittler (1-4). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and on the web at sportsjuice.com.
