Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - It just was not the Lakewood BlueClaws (33-29) night as they lost both games of their doubleheader against the Hickory Crawdads (37-25) on Monday night. The BlueClaws were held to 3 runs combined in the two games on Monday with Hickory winning 3-2 in game 1, and 4-1 in game 2.

In game 1, Lakewood out hit Hickory, but the BlueClaws also committed 3 costly errors in the loss. Tomas Telis hit a monster 2 run HR for the Crawdads, and the BlueClaws just couldn't get the big hit they needed in the 3-2 loss. Bill Rice, Carlos Alonso, and Anthony Hewitt all chipped in with 2 hit games for Lakewood.

It was a little different story in game 2 with Lakewood pitching walking 9 batters, and Hickory walking 5 as well. Jurickson Profar provided all the offense Hickory needed with an RBI Sacrifice Fly to put the Crawdads up 1-0 in the 2nd inning, and then a 2 RBI double in the 4th inning to make it 3-0 Hickory. Lakewood didn't collect their first hit until a leadoff triple by Carlos Perdomo in the 5th inning. Perdomo later scored Lakewood's only run. Roman Mendez was amazing out of the bullpen for Hickory facing 6 batters, retiring all 6, and striking out 5 of them.

On Tuesday, the two teams will play another doubleheader to complete their 5 game series. The BlueClaws face the possibility of being eliminated from postseason contention if they lose twice on Tuesday. Game 1 features starting pitchers LHP Jesse Biddle (7-8, 2.94 ERA) for Lakewood and RHP Nicholas Tepesch (6-4, 3.60 ERA) for Hickory. Game 2 will have LHP Austin Wright (1-1, 1.80 ERA) throwing for Lakewood and RHP Joe Van Meter (5-6, 4.13 ERA) for the Crawdads. First pitch of Game 1 on Tuesday is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
