'Dads Sweep BlueClaws in Monday Doubleheader

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads seized control of 1st Place in the 2nd-Half standings with a doubleheader sweep against the Lakewood BlueClaws -- 3-2 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2 -- before 8,380 fans at FirstEnergy Park on Monday night.

Game 1:

The Crawdads (76-53, 36-25) struck first in the top of the third against RHP Lisalberto Bonilla (L, 4-5). SS Jurickson Profar worked a leadoff walk, before DH Tomas Telis belted a two-run bomb one out later, putting the 'Dads in the 2-0 lead.

Lakewood (66-63, 33-28) tied it with a tally in the third and fourth against LHP Will Lamb. CF Zach Collier got te BlueClaws on the board with an RBI single in the third, and LF Bill Rice tied it with an RBI triple in the fourth.

The 'Dads moved back in front in the top of the sixth. RF Josh Richmond singled his way on with one out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. LHP Jay Johnson took over on the mound and issued a walk to C Kellin Deglan, putting runners at first and second. Richmond took third base on a steal, before racing home on an RBI infield single by 1B Jhonny Gomez, lifting Hickory into the 3-2 advantage.

After Lamb tossed the first four inning, Hickory received a scoreless relief inning apiece from RHP Ben Rowen (W, 5-4), RHP Jose Monegro and RHP Francisco Mendoza (S, 7), closing the 3-2 win for the Crawdads in seven innings.

Game 2:

Hickory (77-53, 37-25) again scored first in the second game of the doubleheader, striking for a run against LHP Ervis Manzanillo (L, 8-7) in the top of the second frame. With one out, DH Clark Murphy, 1B Jhonny Gomez and LF Braxton Lane drew consecutive walks to load the bases. SS Jurickson Profar brought home Richmond with a sacrifice fly to center field, giving the 'Dads the early 1-0 advantage.

Profar struck again with a two-run double in the top of the fourth, making it 3-0, before Lakewood (66-64, 33-29) even registered a hit against RHP Luke Jackson (W, 5-5). After four no-hit frames, the BlueClaws managed to get on the board against Jackson in the bottom of the fifth. SS Carlos Perdomo broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff triple, and then raced in on the RBI single by LF Bill Rice, making it 3-1.

The Crawdads stretched the lead right back out in the top of the sixth. Lane drew another walk to start the inning. He then stole second base, drawing an errant throw from C Jeff Lanning in the process, which enabled Lane to take third as well. After a strikeout, CF Jake Skole placed an RBI single to shallow left field, putting the 'Dads up, 4-1.

After Jackson had gotten out of the fifth inning by striking out the side, RHP Roman Mendez followed suit and struck out the side in the sixth inning. Mendez slammed the door by striking out two more in a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh, wrapping up the 4-1 seven-inning win for Hickory and the doubleheader sweep.
