
Shorebirds Drop Eighth Straight Game, 8-0

Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers held the Shorebirds scoreless for a second straight night en route to an 8-0 win on Monday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Shorebirds have lost eight straight games. The Shorebirds have not scored a run in a season high 19 straight innings.
John Ruettiger recorded three of the four Shorebirds hits. Ruettiger is 9-for-13 in his last three games.
The Grasshoppers scratched across a run in the first inning. Shorebirds starter Matt Bywater loaded the bases by issuing two walks and hitting a batter. Mark Canha bounced into a double play, which brought home Noah Perio.
In the second, Jacob Realmuto connected on a line drive homer to increase the lead to 2-0.
The Grasshoppers tacked on a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Realmuto, who went 3-for-4.
In the seventh, Greensboro scored four runs to build a 7-0 lead. With two runners in scoring position, Christian Yelich scorched a single into left-center field to stretch the lead to 5-0. With two outs, Garabez Rosa committed a throwing error, which allowed Yelich to score. Marcell Ozuna singled to plate Canha.
The Grasshoppers final run was scored after back-to-back doubles by Ryan Fisher and Wilfredo Gimenez in the eighth inning.
Left-hander Matt Bywater was tagged with the loss over 5.2 innings. He allowed three hits and three runs. Bywater fanned eight and walked four.
Tim Adleman allowed five hits and two earned runs while Cam Roth gave up two hits and a run over 1.1 innings.
Greensboro starter Alex Caldera earned the win over six shutout innings. He surrendered just three hits. Relievers Grant Dayton and Michael Brady held the Shorebirds to one hit over the final three innings.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers play the final road game of the season on Tuesday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. RHP David Baker is the scheduled starter.
