
Rohm 3-Run Homer, Five Run First Lifts Braves

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-1 Monday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 1,884. Braves starter Aaron Northcraft kept the Intimidators offense at bay for six innings as he allowed only one run on three hits and David Rohm hit a three run homer in the first inning to help lead Rome to victory. The final regular season home game will be tomorrow at 7pm as Rome and Kannapolis square off in the sixth and final game of the series.
In the bottom of the first the Braves batted through the entire order and jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Matt Lipka got things started with a leadoff single and one out later Evan Gattis was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Chris Garcia drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single to left and an error by third baseman Rangel Ravelo on an Edward Salcedo groundball allowed Gattis to score and make it a 2-0 Rome lead. David Rohm (7) then stepped to the plate and delivered the biggest blow of the inning when he launched a three run homer over the scoreboard to finish off a five run first inning for the Braves
Carlos Sanchez kept his hot bat alive for Kannapolis in the top of the second when he hit an RBI single up the middle to make it a 5-1 game.
In the bottom of the third after Matt Weaver reached on an error and Robert Hefflinger singled to put runners on the corners, Lipka made it a 6-1 game with an RBI single. The 6-1 score would hold for the rest of the game as Northcraft and the Braves' bullpen held Kannapolis to five hits and their lone run to help seal the win for Rome.
Aaron Northcraft (6-8) earns the win for Rome and Matt Heidenreich (10-9) takes the loss for Kannapolis.
