Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - It was a scoreless game into the bottom of the 5th inning when Kannapolis put a run on the scoreboard, but the Intimidators would tack on three more in the 6th to take a comfortable 4-0 lead en route to a 5-0 win Saturday night.
After allowing one hit and retiring 12 of the first 13 batters he faced in the ballgame, Ramon Oviedo surrendered two hits and one run in the 5th inning. In the 6th inning, Oviedo would record the first out before allowing three consecutive hits to Kannapolis. Luis Paulino entered the game with runners on first and third base and allowed both inherited runners to score for a 4-0 Kannapolis lead.
Oviedo would be charged with his second loss of the season after allowing four runs- all earned- in 5.1 innings on six hits.
The BlueClaws have now lost the first six games on their current seven-game road trip, and have lost a season-high seven games overall dating to Sunday's loss vs. Hagerstown.
Kannapolis pitchers held the BlueClaws to three hits on the game with the combined shutout going to starting pitcher Erik Johnson and reliever Chris Davenski.
Johnson, the Chicago White Sox 2nd rounder out of the University of California in 2011, made his Intimidators debut Saturday night and earned the victory. He tossed 5.1 innings of shutout baseball while striking out five and walking four. Davenski made his seventh appearance for Kannapolis out of the bullpen and retired all 11 batters he faced. He struck out five and earned his first save of the season.
