Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Matt Rizzotti's three-run inside-the- park home run proved to be the difference as the BlueClaws rallied for a 7-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park, their first win of the season.

Rizzotti's homer came in bizarre fashion. With the BlueClaws trailing 6-4, the home side had runners at the corners with one out. Rizzotti scorched a pitch from Jonathan Holt (0-1) to the leftfield corner, where it appeared to become lodged under the padding on the fence.

Captains leftfielder Lucas Montero put his hands up in the air, indicating the ball was stuck. But before the umpire had a chance to run to the corner to investigate, Montero picked out the ball, by which point Rizzotti was rounding third on his way to scoring easily.

The home run capped a two-inning stretch in which the BlueClaws scored seven runs after not picking up a hit over the first five. Captains starter Chris Archer earned a tough-luck no-decision after pitching five no- hit innings.

The Captains got to BlueClaws starter Julian Sampson early for four runs in the first two innings. The 19-year old had difficulty hitting the strike zone, walking five in three innings.

But the BlueClaws answered with four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game up. Dominic Brown led off the frame with one of his three hits on the afternoon before the BlueClaws loaded the bases with a walk and a hit batsman. Herman Demmink drove in the first run of the game for the home side with an infield single and Moose Mattair cleared the bases with a three-RBI double.

Walter Tejeda (1-0) took the victory despite allowing two runs in one inning of work. Chris Kissock kept Lake County of the scoreboard for the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.
