Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - A steady rain may have played an integral part in the Drive's 6-2 loss Saturday night as the Intimidators were able to capitalize off four Greenville errors, three of which occurred in the first inning.
The Intimidators pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the first off Nick Hagadone as a fielding error by Manny Arambarris and a throwing error by Josh Reddick on the same play, allowed Sergio Morales and Christian Marrero to score.
Kannapolis extended their lead by scoring runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Mike Grace led off the third with a double, stole third, and scored on throwing error by catcher Ty Weeden. An inning later, Marrero delivered a two-out RBI-double.
After being limited to just one hit through the first three innings by Kannapolis starter Anthony Carter, the Drive scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as Josh Reddick tripled home Yamaico Navarro.
However, the Intimidators countered in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. After two hits to start the frame, Matt Inouye produced a sacrifice fly, and Greg Paiml added an RBI-single.
Navarro accounted for the Drive's final run of the game as he doubled in David Mailman in the bottom of the sixth.
Reliever Chad Povich provided solid help out of the bullpen, limiting Kannapolis to just two hits while fanning five in three innings of work.
The Drive and Intimidators will conclude their four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader, beginning at 4:05 PM. The Drive will send southpaw Felix Doubront to the hill in game one, and right-hander Ryan Colvin in the second game. Former Drive pitcher Miguel Socolovich, who was involved in an offseason trade between the Red Sox and White Sox, will start for Kannapolis in game one. Game two's start has yet to be determined.
