
BlueClaws fall in Hagerstown

Hagerstown, MD - The BlueClaws (29-35) began a two game series Wednesday night in Hagerstown against the Suns (25-37), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, with a 6-5 loss. The Suns rallied to take the lead in the eighth inning off reliever Nate Johnson.
The inning started when Josh Wyrick reached on Sean Gamble's two base fielding error. Then with one out in the inning Matt Bacon was hit by a pitch to reach first. Jim Burt followed up with an RBI double to tie the game at 4-4. Kyle Brown gave the Suns a 6-4 lead on a two run single plating Bacon and Burt.
Johnson (11-8) took the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits in one inning of work.
The BlueClaws got a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI double from Jason Jaramillo scoring Gamble from second to cut the lead to 6-5. Gamble walked to lead off the inning then moved up to second on a passed ball. Lakewood could not tie the game though with Sam Orr striking out and Ryan Frith flying out to deep right field to end the game and strand the tying run at second.
Lakewood had a 4-1 lead in the seventh inning when the Suns plated two runs to cut the lead to one. Bacon led off the inning with a double then moved up to third on Jim Burt's single. Brown then reached on a fielder's choice allowing Bacon to score to make it 4-2. With two outs in the inning Rafael Arroyo reached on Orr's throwing error allowing Brown to come around to score to cut the BlueClaws lead to 4-3.
The BlueClaws took a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Greg Golson and Gamble connected for back-to-back two out doubles. Golson's RBI double plated Derek Brant who was hit by a pitch to reach base. Gamble then followed up with an RBI double scoring Golson.
Golson finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Gamble went 1-for-4.
The BlueClaws took the early lead in the game when Mike Dzurilla connected for his 11th homer of the year, a two-run shot in the first. Golson led the game off with a base hit then scored on Dzurilla's homer as Lakewood jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Hagerstown cut the lead in half in the third inning on an RBI double from Carlos Gomez plating Armand Gaerlan from third. Gaerlan reached on a one out single then moved up to second on a passed ball.
Maximo De La Cruz got the no decision allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits over seven innings. De La Cruz walked just one batter and struck out nine.
The BlueClaws wrap up their 2005 road schedule on Thursday night in Hagerstown against the Suns. Lakewood will send left-hander Derek Griffith (7-10, 3.82) to the mound while the Suns will counter with right-hander Kevin Mannix (3-6, 5.40). First pitch on Thursday night is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
