SAVANNAH, Ga. -Greenville's Matt Ciarmella broke a 4-4 stalemate in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday to lead the Bombers to a 5-4 win - their eighth consecutive victory over Savannah.
Gnats' starter Ricardo Morales put up a solid effort, surrendering only two earned runs on six hits over six frames of work. Shortstop Seth Bynum led Savannah offensively, going 3-for-4, with a double, a home run and 2 RBI.
The game lasted better than three hours, not including several rain delays, necessitating the postponement of the second game. The teams will play a pair of seven-inning contests Thirsty Thursday at Historic Grayson Stadium starting at 4 p.m. The games will be followed by the final fireworks show of the season.
In addition, the American Red Cross will be collecting monetary donations outside the ballpark prior to the game for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All fans making a donation of $10 or more will receive a 2005 Sand Gnats bobble head while supplies last.
