Hagerstown Suns News Release
Better late than never. The Suns had just one run after six innings but then exploded for five more in their final two at-bats to win 6-5 over Lakewood.
Trailing by a run, Josh Wyrick led off the eighth inning with a fly ball to left field that Blueclaw outfielder Sean Gamble misjudged and dropped. After Psomas moved him over to third, Wyrick was brought home by a Jim Burt double to tie the game. The Suns would take the lead later that inning when Kyle Brown singled home two more runs and Marcelo Perez held on for the save, his 13th of the season.
The late rally by Hagerstown (67-65) spoiled a good effort from Maximo De La Cruz who struck out nine batters in seven innings. Nate Johnson came on in relief in the eighth and allowed two earned runs on two hits for his eighth loss of the year.
Lakewood (54-80) opened up the scoring with a two-run homerun by Mike Dzurilla in the first inning and added two more in the fourth with back-to-back doubles. All four runs were scored off of starter Mike Devaney who lost his bid for his fourth win of the month but earned a no-decision when his teammates came back to win.
Right-hander Brandon Nall earned his first win as a professional pitching 1.1 innings, and not allowing a hit while striking out three. Nall entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh before striking out Ryan Frith.
Eight different players had base hits for the Suns and Hagerstown picked up a lead leading 11th win when trailing after seven innings. Tomorrow, the Suns and Blueclaws will play for the final time this year at 7:05 on a Thirsty Thursday presented by Twigg Cycles and Today's Hottest Country 104.7 WAYZ.
