
Captains drop two to legends

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, Ohio)--- The Lexington Legends swept a doubleheader over the Lake County Captains 3-1 and 4-0 Wednesday night at Classic Park.
Game one saw the Legends (36-27, 78-55) take a 2-0 lead on a pair of RBI doubles by Ole Sheldon and Luke Barganier. Sheldon double off Captains starter Aaron Laffey (7-7) plated Lou Santangelo from first, and Sheldon scored when Barganier followed with his double. Lexington made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth when Wladimir Sutil singled home Clint McGill.
The Captains (31-31, 71-61) scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth when Josh Noviskey slugged a solo homerun to right off Legends starter Paul Estrada (6-7) to make it 3-1 in favor of the Legends. The homerun was Noviskey's sixth of the season.
Ryan Thompson came on and pitched a scoreless seventh to earn his 11th save of the season.
It took an extra inning effort in game two for the Legends to pull out their 15th shutout of the year. The Legends (37-27, 79-55) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth when center fielder Beau Torbert blasted a two-run homerun to left off Captains reliever Jesus Soto (4-1) making the score 2-0. Three batters later Sheldon delivered a two out RBI double bringing home Drew Sutton from third putting the score at 3-0. The Legends got their final run on Luke Barganier's single which plated Sheldon.
Samuel Gervacio (1-0) came on in relief and hurled two scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. The Legends have pulled within three games of first place with five left to play.
The Captains and the Legends will wrap up the series Friday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
