Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Coming off a tough extra inning loss where they only managed five hits and one run, the BlueClaws brought the bats with a vengeance on Wedsnesday.
Lakewood beat the Hagerstown Suns 10-9 to improve to 4-3. Jarred Cosart (2-0) would pick up the win going 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits, two runs, one walk, and striking out seven.
The BlueClaws had six different starters with more than one hit. Anthony Hewitt went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Leandro Castro had a double, a triple, scored twice and drove in two, and Sebastian Valle went 2-for-5 with three runs driven in.
Valle started the season 1-for-15, but is 6-for-13 in his last three games. He left the game early after taking a foul ball of his toe in the seventh, although he did bat in the eighth.
The BlueClaws jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second against Suns starter Josh Smoker (0-2) after a Jeremy Barnes RBI double and a Domingo Santana sacrifice fly. An RBI single in the third by Valle made it 3-0 and the BlueClaws wouldn't look back.
Valle wasn't finished. With Leandro Castro on first in the seventh, Valle hit his first home run of the 2010 season to give the BlueClaws an 8-2 lead. Hewitt would add a two-run base hit later in the inning to make it 10-2.
Hagerstown would put together a three-run inning in the seventh and two more in the eighth and ninth, but Jordan Ellis struck out Jeff Kobernus with the tying run on third to seal the BlueClaws win.
ClawsNotes: Every BlueClaw starter scored at least once with the exception of Santana and Hewitt.
The BlueClaws will open at FirstEnergy Park on Friday, April 16th when they raise the 2009 South Atlantic League Championship Banner. April 17th and 18th comprise Dollar Weekend (courtesy of the Asbury Park Press). Tickets are on sale now at 732-901-7000 or online at BlueClaws.com.
