Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (6-1) scraped by the Savannah Sand Gnats (3-4) 1-0 Wednesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium in Savannah, GA. The Sand Gnats have now dropped four in a row after starting the season 3-0. In their four losses, the Gnats have scored a combined four runs.

Gnats starter Jimmy Fuller was excellent again in his second start for Savannah. Fuller gave up one run on four hits in eight innings of work, striking out nine GreenJackets while walking just one.

The GreenJackets scored the game's only run in the top of the third inning. Catcher Hector Sanchez led off the inning with a double to right-center. During the following at bat, Fuller threw a fastball over catcher Kai Gronauer's head to the backstop. Sanchez took off for third, as the ball ricocheted directly back to Gronauer. The catcher had a chance to throw Sanchez out at third, but sailed the throw into left field, allowing Sanchez to score.

Gronauer, who was 2-3, accounted for half of the Gnats hits. With one out in the eighth inning, he hit a rocket to the left field corner off the upper part of the wall, missing a tie game and the Gnats' first home run of 2010 by just a few feet, settling for a double instead. The Gnats were unable to get him home when the following two hitters, Rylan Sandoval and Alonzo Harris each struck out swinging against Augusta reliever Jose Casilla.

The Gnats finish up their season-opening eight game homestand on Thirsty Thursday when LHP Mark Cohoon (1-0, 0.00) for Savannah takes on RHP Jorge Bucardo (0-0, 2.25) for Augusta. The Gnats pre-game show on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and www.sandgnats.com begins at 6:50 pm.

Thirsty Thursday:

Budweiser, Connect Savannah and Rock 106.1 present Thirsty Thursday with two-for-one specials on all drinks all season long at Historic Grayson Stadium.
