Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
ABERDEEN, MD - Coby Mayo hit two of Aberdeen's three home runs and the IronBirds took the series opener from Jersey Shore 10-2 on Tuesday night at Leidos Field.
The IronBirds (11-5) have taken all four from the BlueClaws (6-10) so far this season. Jersey Shore had their four game win streak snapped with their first loss since last Wednesday against Asheville.
Mayo, who hit his third and fourth homers of the season, opened the scoring with a second inning solo shot off BlueClaws starter Griff McGarry (0-1). Billy Cook homered in the third inning, when Aberdeen scored three times. Mayo and Jacob Teter also singled home runs.
McGarry, who had thrown three perfect innings in his first two starts, gave up three runs over 2.1 innings while striking out four.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the fourth on a double steal - Casey Martin stole second and Johan Rojas stole home. The BlueClaws lead the minors with 47 steals on the year and Rojas is now 13-13.
Mayo hit a two run home run off Andrew Baker in the eighth inning to cap the scoring for the IronBirds.
Aberdeen starter Jean Pinto (1-1) gave up two runs in five innings to earn the win. Ignacio Felix threw three scoreless innings in relief.
The teams continue their series on Wednesday night. RHP Victor Vargas starts for the BlueClaws.
