Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - A spirited BlueClaws comeback fell one hit short on Saturday, as Carlos Tocci struck out swinging to end the game with the bases loaded in the 9th inning as Hagerstown topped the BlueClaws 6-5 on Saturday at FirstEnergy Park.
The BlueClaws loaded the bases with three hits and the help of three Hagerstown errors to pull within a run, but Sam Johns struck Tocci out on a 3-2 pitch that ended the game. Tocci had singled in the 8th inning to drive in a run and extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Hagerstown (7-9) got their first win of the series after the BlueClaws (8-9) had won the first two games of the four-game set, which wraps up on Sunday.
Hagerstown scored three times in the first inning off Chris Oliver, but only one of the runs was earned thanks to two BlueClaws errors.
The Suns added a run in the 3rd inning to go up 4-0 before the BlueClaws scored twice in the bottom of the 5th inning on a two-run single by Malquin Canelo.
Chris Oliver (1-2) took the loss for Lakewood, allowing four runs, two earned, over five innings. Jason Zgardowski gave up a two-run single to Austin Davidson in the 6th inning to put the Suns up 6-2 before the BlueClaws began their comeback.
RC Orlan (1-0) was credited with the win after allowing two runs over three innings. Sam Johns allowed an unearned run in the 9th inning but got his first save.
Malquin Canelo went 2-4 for the BlueClaws and Tim Zier was 2-3 in the loss. Alec Keller and Grant DeBruin each had three hits for Hagerstown while Austin Davidson and Osvaldo Abreu had two each.
The series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm. LHP Elniery Garcia (1-1) starts for the BlueClaws against RHP Austen Williams (2-1).
