BlueClaws Bounce Back with 6-2 Win
August 20, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (29-26) got a much needed victory on Saturday night with a 6-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (27-28). Greensboro committed 4 big errors, and Lakewood took advantage. Garett Claypool got his 4th victory of the year, and his first since June 25th.
A victim of a lack of run support this season, Claypool got just the opposite on Saturday. After spotting Greensboro a run on a solo HR by Marcell Ozuna in the top of the 1st, the BlueClaws offense got Claypool's back. They scored 5 times in the bottom of the first on 4 singles and 2 big errors. Greensboro and Lakewood each added a run in the 3rd, and the bullpens combined to record a scoreless final 6 innings.
Claypool finished with 8 strikeouts over 5 innings of 4 hit, 2 run baseball. Tyler Knigge was fantastic out of the bullpen for the BlueClaws throwing 3 perfect innings of relief. Hector Neris got the final 3 outs for Lakewood.
The BlueClaws will try to win the series on Sunday in the final game of the 4 game set. All-Star righty Lisalberto Bonilla (3-4, 2.92 ERA) will start for Lakewood, and RHP Kyle Winters (7-3, 4.41 ERA) will throw the first pitch for Greensboro. It is a scheduled 5:05 pm First Pitch on Sunday.
