
BlueClaws Blanked by Delmarva 4-0 on Thursday

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Brian Gonzalez threw six scoreless innings to lead Delmarva to a 4-1 win over the BlueClaws on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.
The loss drops the BlueClaws to 15-24 and is their fourth straight after a six-game winning streak that ran through Sunday. Delmarva (23-16) has won three straight and took the first of 22 meetings with the BlueClaws this year.
Gonzalez improved to 4-1 with the win. He added seven strikeouts against three walks.
Delmarva opened the scoring in the sixth inning. Cedric Mullins led off the inning with a double and came in on an RBI single by Yermin Mercedes. Then after a strikeout for the second out, Natanael Delgado singled home two runs to put the Shorebirds up 3-0.
Luke Leftwich came out after 5.2 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, with seven strikeouts and one walk. He now leads the league with 51 strikeouts this year.
Edgar Garcia came on for Lakewood and gave up a solo home run to Cedric Mullins in the seventh to put the Shorebirds up 4-0. It was Mullins' second home run of the season.
The BlueClaws chances early but failed to capitalize. They squandered two-on/none-out in the first inning and left runners in scoring position in five different innings. Overall, the BlueClaws were 0-11 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Emmanuel Marrero, Carlos Duran, and Damek Tomscha all had two hits for Lakewood, who was shutout for the third time this year.
The BlueClaws and Shorebirds continue their series at 7:05 pm on Friday. RHP Harold Arauz (1-3) starts for the BlueClaws against RHP Christian Alvarado (2-3).
