Oklahoma City Blue News Release
ORLANDO - The Oklahoma City Blue (8-3) defeated the Delaware Blue Coats (7-4), 129-114, on Saturday.
The first half featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes as both teams knocked down a combined 19 shots from behind the arc with Delaware hitting their first five. With the score tied 68-all at the break, Omer Yurtseven led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-10 shots as the Oklahoma City bench contributed 32 first-half points.
The shooting continued into the third, as both teams traded baskets for nine additional lead changes. The game stayed within two possessions through three quarters. Oklahoma City used a 10-5 run to close the third ahead 96-92. One minute into the final period, Vincent Edwards made a three to give the Blue the game's largest lead at seven. Edward's three ignited an OKC 27-11 run in the fourth to open up 20-point lead. The Blue outscored the Blue Coats 33-22 in the final frame for the win.
"We knew physically and mentally it was going to be a battle," Head Coach Grant Gibbs said. "Obviously, losing two games in a row, two games we were in, we just didn't finish them and didn't play a full 48. It really required everyone, individually, to reach down deep from a physical standpoint and execution standpoint to get this one done. It was a wild, chaotic, up-and-down game. There was a lot going on, and I thought we just kind of hung in there through a lot of it and guys made plays."
Seven Oklahoma City players scored in double figures as they assisted on 30 of 48 shots. Yurtseven led the team with 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting and nine rebounds, while swatting two blocks. Thunder two-way player Moses Brown notched his ninth double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while assignment player Aleksej Pokuà ¡evski contributed 13 points, dished a career-high nine assists, and grabbed six rebounds, shooting 4-of-7 from the field.
Rob Edwards drained four shots from long range to tally 14 points. Off the bench, Vincent Edwards knocked down three long-range shots of his own to register 13 points and five rebounds and Ryan Woolridge chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Paul Reed led the Blue Coats with 35 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and three steals.
The Blue will return to action Monday, March 1, against the Long Island Nets at 10 a.m. CT inside AdventHealth Arena.
